2022 AGM and Casual Cruising (30 August 2022) - MODIFIED (11 OCTOBER 2022)
REGARDING PROPOSED CASUAL CRUISING AROUND THE RCBC AGM WEEKEND
Our 2022 RCBC AGM is coming up soon. It is to be held at the Swan Reach Hotel on Saturday 22 October, starting at 11:30am. Lunch will be served from 12 noon, so expect a short meeting. Please contact our Secretary (secretary@riverlandcruisingboatclub.org.au) in the next couple of days if you are planning to attend so that Lissa can book a place for you at the meeting and if required, for lunch at the pub.
With respect to the proposal for some casual boating around this weekend, current high river levels and flow rates have made this an unattractive proposition for most. We are not aware of any cruisers or houseboats that will be participating. The boat ramp at Swan Reach is almost completely under water, as are most of the banks in the reserves. Launching and mooring boats will therefore be difficult and the Club’s Committee is not encouraging it. However there may still be a couple of people with tinnies and/or canoes and kayaks, so if you would like to participate at this level, please contact Lindsay Dent (lindsay.dent27@gmail.com or 0421 493 397). Lindsay is now seeking concrete expressions of interest and contact details because any plans may be changed at short notice and he wants to be able to keep you informed. Please note that any boating that does take place will not be a part of an official RCBC activity and, as always, will be at your own risk. Should you be planning to do some boating, please bring along anything that you might need and don’t forget the PDFs!
PLEASE DON’T LET THE RIVER LEVELS PUT YOU OFF ATTENDING THE AGM - IT IS STILL ON AND WE WILL HAVE PLENTY OF OPPORTUNITY TO SOCIALISE AFTER WHAT WILL BE ONLY A SHORT MEETING. Our 2022 AGM will be held at the Swan Reach Hotel on Saturday 22 October starting at 11.30. THE FOLLOWING IS NO LONGER APPLICABLE, BUT CONTACT LINDSAY IF YOU ARE STILL INTERESTED IN SOME SORT OF BOATING (Lindsay Dent (ph 0421 493 397; lindsay.dentr27@gmail.com)Some casual boating will happen on the AGM weekend and you are invited to participate. What will we do? Cruise upstream one day and downstream the next. Cruiser crawl or dinghy dash or a quiet paddle in the backwaters by canoe or kayak. If you can make it on Friday, turn up then. If not, bring your boat to the AGM on Saturday and we will put in some water-borne hours in the afternoon and again on Sunday. You can participate as much or as little as you like! Approximate departure times from the Swan Reach boat ramp each day will be:Friday - 12 noon on waterSaturday – 2.30pm on water (after the AGM lunch)Sunday - 10am on water What do I need to bring? Everything you need. There will be no amenities trailer, no Club BBQ, no serious organizing, just enthusiasm for some casual boating. Accommodation could be on your boat, at the local hotel or caravan park. Registration for the RCBC casual cruising is not required and there are no fees. The informal, non-organizers are: Lindsay Dent (ph 0421 493 397; lindsay.dentr27@gmail.com), Paul Knifton (ph. 0412 661 733; pknifton@bigpond.com) and Peter Hunter (ph. 0447 177 341; hunterps11@bigpond.com). 2022 River Run - Customs House to Moorook 9 - 19 September 2022 (Revised 30 August 2022)
CANCELLED DUE TO HIGH RIVER LEVELS AND FLOW RATES
The 2022 River Run has been cancelled due to concerns around the potential risks posed by current and predicted river conditions. Water flowing into SA has hit a six year high. Advice from SA Water indicates the Murray River level and flow has not yet peaked and will remain high with some fluctuations over the coming weeks. Concerning river conditions include faster, swirling and unpredictable currents, particularly in lock approaches; elevated water levels and; submerged debris.
Members who have registered and paid for the event will receive a refund. Instructions for recovery of the refund will be provided to registrations by email or post.
Thank you for your patience and continued support of the RCBC.

Mini-Run - Customs House to Lock 7 and Return 6 - 13 May 2022
This will be an out-and-back event, commencing at Customs House (Border Cliffs) boat ramp in South Australia, travelling approximately 66km by river in each direction to and from Lock 7 in NSW, crossing two borders along the way. This event is best suited to liveaboard cruisers and small houseboats, but the more adventurous might easily tackle it in open boats, including tinnies and putt putts. This is one of the most remote and beautiful stretches of the Murray River and there are a number of substantial backwaters and creeks to explore by canoe, kayak and small boat. It will be possible to do the return trip within the designated period of 6 - 9 May (Friday to Monday), but most will probably want to make the most of the following 3 to 4 days for a more leisurely pace. As with most Mini-Runs, the amenities trailer will not be available, but we have negotiated for use of shower and toilet facilities at several stops along the way. We have arranged for two optional catered meals, but we will otherwise need to be self-sufficient. We will be travelling through and camping on the Murray-Sunset National Park (Victoria) and private land in NSW, so no pets (i.e. no cats and dogs) are allowed. Guests are welcome, but new participants are encouraged to become members of the RCBC and are subject to the usual fees. Click here for the Registration Form and Running (Information) Sheet in Word format and here for pdf format Registration Form and Running Sheet. Registration deadline is 22 April 2022. Event Organizer: Lindsay Dent (lindsay.dent27@gmail.com) ph. 0421 493 397.
Dinghy Dawdle - CHANGE OF LOCATION - Lyrup Flats 18 - 21 March (14 February 2022)
Due to problems with water levels and creek accessability, this four day event will now be based around a camp at Lyrup Flats rather than the previously advertised Higgin's Cutting. Small boats, including tinnies and other dinghies and canoes/kayaks will be used to explore the river environment at a sedate pace.
Camping will be at pre-booked sites suitable for tents, campers and caravans in the Murray River National Park (Lyrup Flats). The entrance to the park is approximately 10 km. southwest of Renmark, off the Sturt Highway. Dinghy dawdles will include the Pike River, Tanyaca and Rumpagunya Creeks. Sunday lunch will be at the Lyrup Community Club, accessed by dinghy. REGISTRATION FEE: $10.00 PER PERSON plus additional camping costs of $13.50/couple or tent or camping vehicle/night (paid in advance via RCBC).
The RCBC welcomes new participants.
